First Fixture - 14 October 2017 at Llandaff Fields

There are so many people and organisations to thank for hosting the first fixure of the 2017-2018 season, but here are a few: Graham Finlayson, British Athletics, Welsh Athletics, Cross Challenge, Full on Sport and members of local running clubs. I am sorry if you are not mentioned personally but thank you anyway.
We had good weather which always helps!!

Provisional results of the fixture are now available (click on the link to the left).

Junior Age Group Scoring
There is a proposal from Westbury Harriers as follows:
The Proposal is that for Junior age groups (novices to Under 20) the best 4 out of 5 results count towards the overall totals.
1. Junior athletes who get selected to represent their schools at regional or national level often have a clash with the Gwent League as they both use the nominated league dates as prescribed by UK Athletics
2. As a result of the above, athletes who perform well in the Gwent League are selected to represent their schools and potentially miss out on Gwent League medals
3. This is proposed for individual and team scoring

If this proposal is adopted the method of scoring would almost certainly have to change as well. This would mean that the first runner scores 1 point, the second 2 points an so on.
It would also mean that presentations at the final fixture are unlikely to be possible - the amount of administration would be high.

Chip Timing
It was suggested that we investigate the use of chip timing at our events
The two main issues are:
1. Cost
2. The use of such a system would require detailed pre-registration (by team managers) of their athletes. It would also not allow athletes entering on the day.
The use of such systems at other cross country leagues will also be investigated by the League.

Gwent League Shirts It was proposed to reintroduce the Gwent League Shirt. Any athlete finishing in the top 10% of a race during the season would be entitled to (for a small fee) receive a commemorative t-shirt. Athletes will only be allowed to win one shirt per season.

The Officers of the League are:
